The RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is the most widely recognised lifeguard qualification in the UK and will provide you with the opportunity for employment at most swimming pools.

Description
This qualification is valid for 2 years and is usually the minimum requirement for all lifeguards who work in swimming pools across the UK. It is divided into 2 units and awarded following the successful completion of both.
Unit 1 covers the general aspects of pool lifeguarding including pool operation, supervision, accident prevention and rescue skills as well as resuscitation and first aid.
Unit 2 puts the skills and knowledge learnt into practice at the pool training venue.
All of our courses include the training and assessment of both units.
Course Content
This course covers the following elements:
- Theory including the principles of lifesaving and swimming pool supervision
- Water rescue skills and spinal injury management
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- First aid
- Customer care
Prerequisites
All candidates must be aged 16 years or over on the start date of the course and be able to meet the following fitness criteria:
- Jump or dive into deep water
- Swim 50m in 60 seconds
- Swim 100m continuously on both front and back stroke
- Tread water for 30 seconds
- Surface dive to a depth of 1.8m
- Climb out of the pool unaided
